Description

In 804, Benedictine monks founded the Cruas Abbey. Today, the only remnant of the primitive Abbey is Sainte Marie’s abbey church built between the 11th and 13th century. In order to protect themselves from floods associated with the Crûle River, monks decided to build a chapel, from the 11th century, on the heights of Cruas, used for secondary worship, Saint Benoît chapel. With the Hundred Years’ War and the Wars of Religion, the shadow of violent historic episodes wander on the Benedictine monks community; so overtime the village will be consolidated. Cruas Benedictine monks’ life is going to be completely changed. Come to the Tourist office intercommunal guided tour and figure out all modifications.
