A very touching story: It has been said that since old times this statue (the Virgen Mary with the Child Jesus) was sculpted by a young shepherd of the Bas-Montbrun area in a cherry grove.

Statue Sainte-Raône

Information

Description

He left her in the area that the Baron of Estrange erected his chapel in the beginning of the 16th century. The chapel of Saint Catherine, named after the orphaned child who was called Catherine. This sculpture rested on the altar of the chapel until it was transferred in the 18th century to the parish church. In later years, the statue has been attribued to calm naughty children. Pilgrims have come in the 19th and 20the century to ask the Virgin to help their children behave better…burning candles at her feet.
