6:00 PM: Documentary Film Screening
Three short films produced as part of the Master’s program in Documentary Filmmaking at Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis, Senegal – class of 2016/2017.
BENEN Guiss Guiss (Another Perspective) – 20 min – by Oliver Téko Tanzafo (Cameroon): “Exploring the life of young Fatou Codou, the only female mechanic in Saint-Louis, Senegal, I discovered a world where women choose alternative paths to integrate into society.”
NONE TUBIPFE (My Identity) – 20 min – by Diane Kaneza (Burundi): “What is striking is the ease with which people communicate between ethnic groups in Senegal, while my country, Burundi, is torn apart by cyclical ethnic wars.” NATAAL 26 min by Ousemane Samassékou (Mali): Mbalax is the most popular traditional music in Senegal. At thirty-nine, Khadim has always dreamed of releasing a Mbalax album with his band. He tells us his story…

8:30 pm: Concert – Mélo’ Nomade
A meeting of classical and Afro-folk music
Mélo’ Nomade is a duo formed by Raphaèle Murer, a classical cellist, and Magou Samb, a guitarist, kora player, and heir to the folk music of the Lebou fishermen of Senegal, a singer with a gravelly, bluesy voice. Created in 2017, Mélo’ Nomade is a journey into the soul of the kora, the guitar, and the cello.
