From the very first notes, this concert transports us far from our familiar surroundings, to the contrasting and luminous landscapes of colonial Latin America. In the church of Villeneuve-de-Berg, the Alkymia ensemble presents a rich program that leads us to Sucre, the former capital of Bolivia, a crossroads of cultures and influences.

At the heart of this journey, the villancicos, festive vocal works from the colonial archives, reveal a remarkably rich soundscape. Religious fervor and popular vitality intertwine, carried by a poetic language inherited from the Spanish Golden Age, already transformed by the lands of Latin America.

The Alkymia ensemble brings these musical treasures to life with their full spectrum of colors, thanks to an instrumentation as rare as it is captivating. Alongside the voices, plucked and bowed strings (early guitars, vihuela, viola) converse with flutes and percussion, adding depth, rhythm, and brilliance. This diversity of timbres captures the energy and freedom of these repertoires, nourished by multiple influences.

The program extends into other forms and eras: instrumental pieces echo this heritage, while the cuecas, dances that remain vibrant today, reveal its unexpected extensions. Between sacred and secular, between memory and present, styles intersect, transform, and respond to one another.

With sensitivity and imagination, Alkymia weaves a rich and colorful journey, where centuries intertwine and music becomes a space for cultural exchange. An invitation to discovery and a change of scenery, within the warm acoustic and spiritual atmosphere of the church.
