Overlooking the Rh\u00f4ne valley from its impressive dungeon, Rochemaure castle is still as fascinating today as ever for everyone. This castle was built by the Adh\u00e9mar family from Monteil between the 11th and the 12th century. Its remains have still not given up all its mysteries. The fortified castrum from the 12th century, including ramparts and flanking towers that we can still see and the old village are medieval.<\/p>\n
We can see chequered black basalt and white limestone\u2019s stones, which are found in lots of villages in our territory.<\/p>\n
Geologically, Rochemaure castle was built in a strategic location. Coiron plateau\u2019s basalt and Cruas limestone quarry were used to supply the construction of the castle and the lovely old village.
