In 804, Benedictine monks founded the Cruas Abbey. Today, the only remnant of the primitive Abbey is Sainte Marie\u2019s abbey church built between the 11th and 13th century. In order to protect themselves from floods associated with the Cr\u00fble River, monks decided to build a chapel, from the 11th century, on the heights of Cruas, used for secondary worship, Saint Beno\u00eet chapel. With the Hundred Years\u2019 War and the Wars of Religion, the shadow of violent historic episodes wander on the Benedictine monks community; so overtime the village will be consolidated. Cruas Benedictine monks\u2019 life is going to be completely changed.
