Guided tour "Les Balmes de Montbrun. Archaeology of a troglodytic habitat"
Information
Description
Organized by the Ardèche Federation for Prehistoric and Archaeological Research, as part of the European Archaeology Days (JEA), these events offer a unique opportunity to discover the latest research advances across the region and explore the inner workings of archaeology: ongoing excavations, laboratories exceptionally open to the public, museum collections, exhibitions, conferences, and more. Archaeology enthusiasts and casual visitors alike are invited to reconnect with their past and history. Archaeologists and heritage professionals from all public and private institutions, both professionals and amateurs, come together to welcome the public, share knowledge, and showcase the discipline’s progress.
The Balmes de Montbrun site is one of the Coiron region’s flagship tourist attractions, having captivated local scholars and artists for over a century. It is also well-known to the general public for its unique character, which has given rise to numerous interpretations and explanations, often far removed from the site’s historical and archaeological reality.
Beyond its picturesque and touristic appeal, this site holds significant scientific interest, as it represents one of the finest examples of a troglodytic castle site in the Massif Central and its surrounding areas.
