The village is located at the gates of the Massif Coiron, made of basalt (black stone) and near limestone landscape (white stone). This feature gives houses in the village surprising originality creating black and white chessboards on the covers. There are still some remains of the castle and ramparts from the XIIIth century. Its church of the XIVth century was also fortified. Saint Jean le Centenier is a tourist train station of "viaduc 07". It is an original mean of transport linking the Auzon valley to Vogue.
