Neolithic relics testify the presence of our ancestors in Lavilledieu. Two menhirs, erected by Celts and a Roman oppidum (seven towers and a bulwark of 300m remain) are located around the rocks of Jastres. This Oppidum is a lookout on the plain of Aubenas. The Benedictine founded a convent in the XIth century and remained there until the middle of the XVIIth century. There are still many remains of the fortifications, like the narrow passages leading to the medieval center. The remains of the cloister of the abbey welcome today shows in the summer. Near the village, the hamlet of Bayssac hosts the museum of the bizarre founded in 1971 by Serge Tekielski –known as "Candide". You can see about 200 works of folk art, paintings, sculptures, objects ... Lavilledieu is a dynamic town with a large area of activity.
