Darbres is a picturesque village nestled in the side of the volcanic plateau of Coiron. The Spinning of Darbres -from 1812- is the only witness of its industrial past. It is an important building of basalt on 2 levels. The Spinning took a central place for most of the villagers. While its operation, it employed 70 workers (mostly women) and the village had 800 inhabitants. Real economic lung, its closure (due to the development of channels of communication and the emergence of modern textile) marked, as in many villages of Ardéche after the First World War, the beginning of the desertification of rural areas. Today, the Spinning is used by the FOL (Federation of Secular Works) as a holiday center for children.
